BE*YOU*TIFUL

Happy #InternationalWomensDay! Today is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. I’m so thankful for the trailblazing women who have come before me and those that serve as positive role models today – women who have inspired me to be a better leader at home, at work, and in my community. You are beautiful. We are beautiful.

I will be the change I want to see by empowering, lifting, and supporting women to rise up to their fullest potential while challenging systemic and unconcious biases and barriers.

When I was growing up, personal computers were not a household item. It was in an eight grade computer lab where I used a Mac for the first time and mostly just to test my 19th century survival skills in the treacherous travel of the Oregon Trail. In my junior year I used one of my electives to take a Business Administration class – this is where I really found joy in computer work. Still, the only careers I knew of that would allow use of this fun tool were administrative roles. I had no idea an entire field of Computer Science existed, let alone could be a future career path for a nerdy girl like me. It wasn’t until the beginning of my senior year, when a trade school recruiter visited me and shared with me the possibilities. And because I had no idea what I wanted to be when I grew up, but I knew I liked tech, I enrolled in a Software Applications & Programming program. While I may not code in my day job anymore, it gave me exposure to technology and how it could and is transforming our world, opening up new ways for me to support the field.

To ensure the generations of women behind me have access to and opportunities to explore unknown career path possibilities too, I want to #payitforward and donate to an organization that is doing just that: Girls Who Code.

In my down time, I like to create handmade wearables to empower womxn – statement jewelry if you will. So in honor of #IWD2021, for every pair of earrings purchased through end of March in the styles shown below, I will donate ALL net profits to the #GirlsWhoCode.

Click the links below to purchase (shipping to US addresses only at this time):

NOTE: These 2.5" genuine leather earrings are handmade, so each is unique and may have small imperfections.

Please share this post with your friends and family and let's see how much we can raise! If earrings are not your thing, no hard feelings, feel free to donate directly to Girls Who Code or any of the many other organizations fighting for #womenrights.

Girls Who Code is a national non-profit organization working to close the gender gap in technology. Our programs inspire, educate, and equip girls with the computing skills they’ll need to pursue 21st century opportunities.
